What LinesAndTubes does

Central lines, cannulas, urinary catheters and drains with insertion details, dwell-time limits and daily necessity review — feeding CLABSI/CAUTI denominators to InfectionWatch automatically.

How you actually use it

  1. Record the insertionUnder Insert a line pick the open admission, the device kind with its dwell limit, the site, and optionally size and lot. A site is required, and a second live device of the same kind at the same site on that admission is refused.
  2. Read the boardEvery line in situ with hours in against its limit, when it is due, and when it was last reviewed. A line past its dwell limit is marked over.
  3. Review it dailyStill needed records the review. Not needed needs a note saying why it is still in, and the board counts how many times a line has been judged not needed.
  4. Take it outRemove asks the reason: completed, no longer needed, blocked, dislodged, or infection suspected. A line removed for suspected infection is listed separately with its time in situ.
