What it is

The lens box is scanned before it is opened. The GS1 barcode gives the GTIN, lot, serial and expiry; the theatre’s lens list says which maker, model and power that GTIN is, or the scrub nurse types them from the label. The server compares the box with the latest signed calculation in VisionSuite for the eye being operated on, and blocks a different power, a different model when the plan names one, the wrong eye for the case, an eye with no signed plan, and an expired box. Only the surgeon may override a power or model difference, with a reason that is kept with their name; a wrong eye, a missing plan or an expired lens cannot be overridden. A matched or overridden lens is recorded in ImplantRegistry in the same step, with its recall check, so a later recall finds the patient.
