What DispenseDesk does

Dispensing against the electronic prescription with batch and expiry picked FEFO, substitutions recorded as their own fact.

How you actually use it

  1. Start the saleNew sale takes a prescription id, or leaves the box blank for an over-the-counter sale; only an active prescription is dispensed against.
  2. Add the linesPick an item and a quantity; the line snapshots its price as it is added, the batch is picked first-expiry-first from the room this counter stands in, and a room with nothing usable says so — every batch on its shelf empty, expired, out with a ward, or under an open recall.
  3. Complete, and the stock movesCompletion is where stock leaves the shelf: the batch update and the movement row land in one transaction, a sale with no lines is refused, negative stock is refused by the batch’s own check and an expired batch by the where clause of the update that would have issued it.
  4. A completed sale is frozenLines are added and removed only while the sale is a draft, and Cancel works only on a draft — a completed dispense has already moved stock.
  5. Take something backReturn on a completed line asks how many come back, why, whether to restock and optionally a bill to refund against; the refund is raised as a request against that patient’s own bill, and a counter sale with no patient on it is told to give the money back at the till instead.
