What PreOpClear does

The PAC as a checklist with teeth: investigations valid on the date of surgery, comorbidity optimisation targets, fasting and medication-hold instructions sent to the patient, and a fitness decision that expires if the date moves.

How you actually use it

  1. Work the clearance worklistEvery upcoming case that has no current clearance, in date order.
  2. Record the assessmentAirway and the rest, written the way you would say it — "Mallampati II, full neck movement".
  3. Give a verdictCleared, cleared with conditions, or deferred. Conditions say what must be true before induction; a deferral says why the case cannot proceed yet.
  4. Write the instructions the patient getsFasting, and which medicines to continue or omit — "continue antihypertensives, omit metformin" — so the ward is not inventing them at 6am.
