What it is

For every baby charted as born, the heel-prick card for the metabolic screen, the hearing screen by OAE or AABR, each ear recorded, and the pulse-oximetry screen for critical congenital heart disease, right hand and foot. Each screen is recorded with its result as the unit’s own protocol gives it, or as not done with the reason. A card waits at the lab until its result is entered. A result that is not normal opens a recall with a date, and the recall list shows who is due or overdue until each is closed with what happened. The nursery list shows every baby still in with the screens still missing before discharge, from the clinic’s own list of screens required.
