What NewbornTag does

Mother and newborn banded as a cryptographic pair at birth; every handover — nursery, procedure, discharge — verifies the pair by scan. A mismatch locks the handover and alerts, immediately and loudly.

How you actually use it

  1. Record a newborn against a charted birthUnder Live births charted on the partogram, press Record a newborn… for the delivery: sex, birth weight in grams, and the Apgar at 1 and 5 minutes if you have them. A newborn belongs to a delivery charted on the partogram, and the service refuses one that is not.
  2. Band the babyChecks, then Band the baby… asks for the band identifier. The database refuses an identifier already in use in the unit and a second band on a baby already wearing one.
  3. Verify at every handoverCheck — feed, Check — transfer, Check — procedure or Check — discharge: read the mother’s band and the baby’s band exactly as printed. The server decides whether they match; a mismatch is written down as it was read and opens a discrepancy in the same transaction.
  4. Close a discrepancy with what happenedOpen discrepancies sits at the top of the screen until each one is closed with Close with what happened… — the service refuses a close without the words.
  5. Discharge through the gateDischarge stays disabled until a discharge-time check has matched and no discrepancy is open, and the service checks both conditions again in the one update that stamps the discharge. Birth card prints the card.
