What it is

Every baby in the NICU on one board: day of life and corrected gestation worked out from the birth date and gestation, the daily weight against birth weight, and every feed charted by milk (breastfeed, mother’s expressed milk, donor milk or formula) and route, with the day’s total and ml/kg. Each bilirubin reading, serum or transcutaneous, waits for the doctor’s phototherapy decision, which is recorded with the threshold and the chart the doctor read it against — the app compares nothing itself. The first ROP screen is set from your unit’s own rule (born before so many weeks or under so many grams, screened on a set day of life), with the source your unit follows; without a rule, the doctor sets the date, and every later date is the ophthalmologist’s. The donor milk bank keeps each pasteurised unit with its donor reference, use-by date and culture result: a feed takes milk only from a unit cleared, in date and with the volume left, and the unit keeps which babies it fed.
