What DonorDesk does

What a licensed blood centre owes under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, on top of the blood bank you already run. The donor master with consent and grouping; the screening figures on the day and the NBTC deferral register, temporary or permanent, with the date a deferral ends; the infection screen — HIV, HBsAg, HCV, syphilis, malaria — opened pending on every bag; component separation, so one whole-blood donation becomes packed cells, plasma and platelets; and the haemovigilance register for reactions in donors and recipients. What stays where: a camp registration stays on Blood Drives and a donor can be opened from it; every bag and every component is a unit on the Blood Bank shelf, walked to the patient by the blood bank, not here. The five statutory registers print as tables.

How you actually use it

1. 1Register the donorName, phone, date of birth (18 to 65), and the signed consent. A donor who came to a camp is opened from their Blood Drives registration, so nothing is typed twice.
2. 2Screen, and defer when you mustHaemoglobin, weight, pressure, pulse. A donor who fails is deferred with an NBTC reason and, when temporary, the date it ends — and cannot give until that date.
3. 3Record the donationThe bag lands on the blood bank shelf as whole blood with its five screen results pending. Separate it into packed cells, plasma and platelets; each is a unit under the bag.
4. 4Enter the screen, and the shelf opensEach result is recorded once. Five non-reactive results and the bag and its components can be crossmatched; one reactive result discards them and defers the donor.
5. 5Record reactions and print the registersA reaction at the chair or the bedside goes on the haemovigilance register with its severity and where it was reported. The donor, deferral, screen, component and reaction registers print for the inspector.

What it does not do

It does not crossmatch, issue or transfuse — the blood bank does, and this app adds one door there: a bag whose infection screen has a result pending or reactive cannot leave the shelf, and nor can any component made from it. It prepares no component from a deferred donor’s bag, takes no donation from a donor deferred until a date still to come, and moves no recorded screen result — a result is written once.
