What VitalStream does

BP monitors, glucometers, scales and bedside monitors feeding observations directly into the chart, with the device identity on every reading. 0262 folded DeviceHub in here rather than shipping a second bedside tile: the unit on a reading is now the canonical one for its metric and the database says so, a device’s clock offset is measured and applied so the corrected moment is what everything sorts by, and how the patient was identified is recorded on the row. The laboratory bench is BenchLink and is deliberately not part of this.

How you actually use it

  1. Register the devicesA label and a serial number for each BP monitor, glucometer, thermometer, oximeter or bedside monitor the clinic uses.
  2. Record against the device, not into a boxPick the patient and the device that took the reading. It is mirrored into the chart as an observation with that device’s identity on it, so a doubtful number can be traced to the machine.
  3. Read the patient’s own streamEvery device reading for that patient in one place, in the order it was taken.
  4. Retire a device rather than deleting itIt refuses new readings from that moment, and everything it ever recorded stays exactly where it is.

It refuses a reading in a unit it cannot convert exactly — glucose in mmol/L is turned down rather than multiplied by a factor nobody checked — and it refuses a patient id that is not this hospital’s, whatever the foreign key says.
