What it is

Every external quality assessment scheme the lab is enrolled in — the provider, the analytes it covers and how often its rounds come — and, where no scheme exists for a test, an interlab comparison with a partner lab. Each round is logged from the sample’s arrival, through the lab’s results and their submission, to the provider’s report with the assigned value and SD. The z-score is worked out for you: within ±2 is acceptable, between 2 and 3 a warning, beyond 3 unacceptable. An unacceptable result opens a non-conformance in NABLPrep, with its corrective actions, at the moment the report is recorded. Each analyte shows its z-scores round by round, and two warnings in a row or three rounds reading the same way are flagged before the next round fails. Tests the lab runs with no scheme are listed as candidates for an interlab comparison.
