A dengue case recorded on clinical grounds alone is not listed: the programme counts laboratory-confirmed cases. Each case keeps its area, when the illness began and how it ended. The field team’s larval and adult surveys are recorded by area with their counts, and the house, container and Breteau indices are worked out from those counts by their standard definitions; what level calls for action is left to the programme. Each month the return is counted from the list and the surveys: every number says where it came from, a number changed by hand keeps its reason, and the laboratory’s count of every malaria test examined is entered from its register. The reporting deadline is the one your programme office gives you, written with its source. The return is filed by hand and its acknowledgement recorded; nothing is sent from here.
