What SynopticDesk does

A report built from a template of discrete fields per study type — number, choice, yes/no, date, free text — instead of prose alone, so findings become countable. Publishing a template freezes it, because a set of reports were written against that shape; the next shape is a new version, and the one before it retires. An answer of the wrong type, or off a choice field’s list, is refused by the database rather than by a form, and a report cannot be completed while a required field is blank. It COEXISTS with narrative reporting rather than replacing it: every structured form hangs off a radiology report that keeps its own findings, impression and signature. Answers can then be tallied across completed reports — and only completed ones.

How you actually use it

  1. Write the templateStart a template takes a code, a name, the modality and the study, and Add a field takes the position, code, label, data type, whether it is required and — for a choice field — at least two options.
  2. Publish it, then version itPublish is offered only on a draft that has fields, and a published template is frozen by trigger because reports were written against that shape — the next shape is a new version.
  3. Attach a form to a radiology reportGive the radiology report’s id and pick a published template; a report already carrying a structured form is refused, and so is an unpublished template.
  4. Answer the fieldsEach answer is checked against its field’s own type by a trigger, and a field that is not part of this report’s template is refused.
  5. Complete it, and sign nothingComplete it names any required field still unanswered and refuses until they are filled — and the narrative report beside it keeps its own findings, impression and signature, because nothing here signs anything.
