What SnakeAid does

The casualty register for snakebite: when the bite happened and when the patient arrived, the site, the syndrome as observed, the timed chart of clotting tests and neurological signs, and every vial of antivenom given. THE DOSING TABLE IS EMPTY UNTIL YOU LOAD ONE — antivenom dosing is a national protocol, and no row of it is typed into this software. Load the document your hospital works to, with its publisher and a reference somebody can check, and enter its rows against it; every stored row cites the document and the page. A dose recorded either cites one of those rows or carries the clinician’s own written basis, and the database refuses one that carries neither.

How you actually use it

  1. Register the biteFind the patient, then record when they were bitten, where on the body, the locality and the species anybody stated — arrival before the bite is refused.
  2. Record observations as they are seenEach observation takes the clotting test as Not done, Clotted or Not clotted, whether there are neurological signs, whether there is bleeding, and what the patient looks like now — nothing on the screen turns any of that into a verdict or a dose.
  3. Load the protocol your hospital works toThe app ships no dosing table: load the document by title, publisher and reference, then enter its rows against it — a dosing row without its source is not stored.
  4. Record every vialProduct as the vial is labelled, batch and the number of vials, plus either the loaded protocol row it follows or the basis you used written out — a CHECK refuses a dose that states neither.
  5. Close the episode as it actually endedDischarged, Referred on, Died and Left against advice are all on the button, with an outcome note written once under your name — an open episode closes once, and a closed one takes no more vials.
