What it is

For a home helping its residents claim what they are owed: an old-age, widow or disability pension, or another welfare scheme. The schemes are the home’s own list — the scheme as named, the office it is filed with, the papers that office asks for in its own words, and where that comes from with an as-of date — because the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (under the National Social Assistance Programme, 1995) and every state’s own pensions set their own eligibility, papers and amounts, and none of that ships. Starting an application copies the scheme’s papers onto it; each is ticked off as it is obtained, and the application is filed only when they are all in, with the office’s acknowledgement number. Each step is kept as it happened — filed, under verification, approved with the amount as sanctioned, rejected with the reason the office gave, the first payment received, or withdrawn. An open application with no step past the home’s own follow-up clock is stuck and shows first.
