What it is

State police keep a register of senior citizens living alone and send the beat officer round, under each state’s action plan for the protection of seniors’ life and property (s.22(2) of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007). This keeps the agency’s or the family’s copy, so the registration produces a record of visits rather than a filed form: the senior, whether they live alone, the address as registered, the police station and its senior-citizen cell, the day it was applied for, then the registration number and day as the police gave them. The beat officer and their phone are kept as the station changes them. How often the officer visits is what the cell said, in its words — without it nothing is overdue; with it, a visit past due shows first. Each visit is logged as reported — the day, the officer, who told the desk (the senior, the family, the nurse, the officer) and what was noted. A registration ends with the reason (moved, into residential care, died) and is kept.
