An item found on a ward — a phone, jewellery, a wallet — is logged against the patient it likely belongs to and where it was found, and stays on the register until it is claimed or, past the hospital’s own holding period, handed to the police with a receipt.
It does not verify ownership beyond what is reasonable — a claim is recorded with who took it and when; it is not a legal determination of ownership.
