What it is

A frozen-section specimen sent to pathology mid-operation gets a tracked clock from the moment it leaves the theatre to the moment the result reaches the surgeon, because every minute the patient stays under anaesthesia waiting for that result is a minute of avoidable risk. A result that is taking longer than the department’s own target is escalated automatically.
