A child with a life-limiting illness is supported on a pathway built specifically around childhood — symptom control adapted to a child’s physiology, liaison with the child’s school, and respite built around a family rather than a single patient — instead of an adapted version of an adult palliative care plan.
It does not manage the underlying illness treatment — oncology or the relevant specialty does; this runs the palliative and family-support pathway alongside it.
