A bariatric surgery patient’s vitamin, mineral and protein levels are tracked on a lifelong schedule, because the deficiencies that follow malabsorptive surgery show up years later and are easy to miss once the patient stops feeling like a surgical follow-up. A level trending toward deficiency is flagged before it becomes symptomatic.
