A child booked for surgery is prepared with age-appropriate explanation — play, pictures, a walkthrough of what will happen — and what was explained and how the child responded is recorded, so the anaesthesia and surgical team walking in on the day know what the child already understands instead of starting from zero.
It does not replace a child-life specialist or play therapist — it records what was done so the next person in the pathway can build on it.
