An ovarian cyst found on ultrasound is scored against a standard malignancy-risk index using its size, features, and the patient’s menopausal status, so the decision between conservative follow-up, a gynae-oncology referral, or straightforward surgery is made against a documented score rather than one sonographer’s impression.
It does not diagnose malignancy — the score flags risk for referral; histology after surgery is the only diagnosis.
