On a day the local air quality index crosses a threshold, patients with COPD or asthma on the clinic’s list get an alert to take precautions and keep their rescue inhaler close, instead of the clinic finding out the air was bad from a spike in emergency visits.
It does not diagnose or triage a breathless patient — it is a precautionary alert; a worsening patient still calls the clinic the usual way.
