He also attends surgery to supervise the patient's vital signs while under the effects of anesthesia. He makes medical decisions regarding life functions such as heart rate, breathing and blood. Diseases And Disorders Treated An anesthesiologist works across all departments where surgical intervention is necessary. Some doctors may have additional experience in certain types of surgeries such as cardiac, thoracic, vascular, orthopedic, neurological or pediatric, as well as pain control during labor (using an epidural pain relief for example). Or they may be dedicated to working in pain medicine - that is, the treatment of people with chronic pain.
