Two records for what turns out to be the same patient — created under a slightly different name or a re-registered mobile number — are merged into one, with every visit, prescription and bill from both carried forward, so nothing from either half is lost and the surviving record is the only one anyone sees from then on.
It does not merge two records automatically on a guess — a person reviews the match and confirms it; a wrongly proposed match can be rejected without touching either record.
